On making
A material is never only a colour on a sample board. It has a temperature, a weight and a way of changing with use. Those quieter qualities help a room become somewhere to belong.
Beyond the first impression
Look at a sample in the light where it will be used. View it beside the neighbouring material. Touch the edge, the joint and the finish. A beautiful palette is a conversation between surfaces, not a set of isolated selections. Consider maintenance early. A finish that needs gentle care may be welcome in one home and impractical in another. The right choice connects the design to the daily life of the people who use it. Allow natural variation to become part of the composition. Grain, texture and small differences in tone can bring depth to a deliberately simple room.
